I’ve been learning to read the Taro from an excellent 640 page book, Tarot Fundamentals. It includes an extensive breakdown of the meanings associated with individual card. Amongst the myriad of commentary on each card, the book provides what the authors consider to be the card’s essential meaning in two descriptive words. While obviously not the be all to end all, for someone diving into Tarot for the first time, the essential meaning of each card is a helpful doorway into a more comprehensive understanding.
